Yesterday

Today. Ughhhhhh I'm totally not finishing this in time for tomorrow. Sigh.

Current progress: Too much paint on the canvas. Colors are getting very muddled. Ugh. But the woman's skin tones are somewhat more matching than before. Although, I kind of liked the weird green body look. Made me think that she was turning into broccoli.

I'd almost rather do math homework. THIS IS DIFFI.CULT STUFF!!!!

What do Vegetarians Do When Vegetables Attack Progress

Painted over almost everything. I like this a bit better. Using a reference is much easier, but I'm not going for photo-realistic, so that will be the slightly more difficult part... or maybe not. I'm not sure. We shall see.


For the next project, we're supposed to re-create a painting from the 1800's. I wanted to work on painting nude figures and backgrounds with actual scenery, so I chose Woman Bathing by Francois Lemoyne, which should be here, but the website is going super slow right now, not sure why. It's also a better quality picture than a bunch of others, therefore easier for me to re-create.


But what I'm excited to work on during the summer is a spoof that may or may not have already been done on Jean Francois de Troy's The Ascension, as seen here. When I first saw it, the colors and figure positions just shouted Superman at me... so... what's up sacrilege? I'm gonna replace Jesus with Superman. That's what's up.


AND, currently my favorite song is Tommy Mac's Another Day. It's a very upbeat chiptune song that always makes me want to bob my head and sway haha I would link it, but I'm not sure what the link is for it. Found it on thesixtyone. WIN!

Update

I got the Social Justice Art Internship at the Multi-Cultural Center on campus! SUPER STOKED!!!! Was so worried because the supervisor that called me sounded hella down and I'm pretty sure she sighed at one point and I was like... dangit. But I got it. YESSSSSSSS!!!! BOOM. DONE. THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT.

As for the "What do vegetarians do when vegetables attack?" painting, I'm revamping it A LOT. Completely redoing the lady [ref here], fixing the sky, might change the hill colors. Changing the light source so that it is coming from the left. Yadda yadda. Might as well completely redo it. Right? What have I got to lose when it comes to an assignment for a beginning painting class?


And for my final project for Beginning Digital Art, I decided to sort of make a bigger deal out of the zombie stop motion animations that I've done in the past. Pretty stoked. My professor showed me the basics of how to use Flash and I was like... 2012 acting status. MY... GOD... [2 minutes later] ... MY... GOD!!! But yeah, it was pretty amazing and so I am excited for that as well. Not sure what I'm going to do for my Beginning Painting final.... eek. Even though I feel like a lot of people bullshit the work in class, and I do it too... not even gonna lie... but I actually learn a lot through... bullshitting. lol Just gotta go all out and see what happens, learn things along the way. 


It's the journey that counts, not the destination, right?

More Current Projects

Some say it's good to have numerous works in progress going on so you can switch from one to another again and again when you get burned out on your current project. 

This one is a long board for one of the residents. I haven't done anything to it, so don't think I'm amazing. I think I'll have to scratch out a lot of the paint, paint some acrylic on there, and then put some kind of gloss over the whole thing. Hopefully it'll stay on. I'll have to do some research. 

This one is a gift for a friend that I disguised as a class project to kill two birds with one stone lol. It's oil on regular canvas. For this project, we were learning how to glaze with color like they did in the olden days. However, by the time we started glazing, I hadn't finished my painting yet, so... I didn't use glazing as much as I would have liked to. I will definitely keep it in mind for future paintings.

The concept is: What can vegetarians do when vegetables attack? My friend is a vegan and she's really against killing animals and stuff... but what about if vegetables turned into living creatures like animals? And what if they were violent creatures? Would vegetarians and the like kill or be killed?!?!?! WHO KNOWS. 

Really liked my professor's advice on painting some of the broccoli dudes and then swiping them with a cloth while the paint was still wet in order to create a sense of motion. However, finding a light source is super difficult. At first, I wanted it to be similar to an old retro advertisement for a monster movie, so I thought maybe there would be a camera flash on this photo... but then in the background, my light source is coming from somewhere to the right... so I had to change a lot. All of these progress photos are of the painting after I drastically changed the light source on the woman from the left to the right. What a pain @_@ 

This is the most current version. Still got to work a lot on it. My favorite part throughout all of this is the spaceship... I don't know why. 

Lessons learned thus far:

1. Always have a reference photo [which I don't.]
2. Always do a preliminary sketch to figure out composition and light source, etc. [which I did not.]
3. Always give enough time for the paint to dry completely or else you risk scratching it off unevenly with another layer of paint.
