Concepts for Independent Painting Project

Yeah, it is sort of cliche to still be talking about stereotypes and sexism, but there is such a WEALTH of subjects to be explored!

For my int. painting class, we're doing a 5x4ft painting. I'm going to propose creating images of pin-up girl faces [I like the classic ones done by Elvgren and some others] on Barbie doll bodies, focusing on their relationships to objectifying women [pin up girls] and creating a dismal role model that is physically unachievable, mentally stereotyped, and racially stereotyped [Barbie: the great white female].

The effect of my internship at the Multi-Cultural Center has been amazing, to put it lightly. I've been doing a lot of thinking about social justice and how I can incorporate meaningful messages in my paintings, as opposed to the usual meaningless pop shit.

Sorry for the photo quality. Built-in webcams, you know.

Here are four potential concepts.

"My role model is..." on the chalkboard in the background. All of the young, female students look up to pin up Barbie. They seek to look just like her when they grow older, even if physically impossible. Maybe they can pose seductively in magazines made for men, too.

White female Barbie PREVAILS. I think I was going to put a pile of multi-racial heads in the background, but forgot.

That is an Asian baby's face on a sexually posed Barbie body. She may not be mentally mature, but Barbie guarantees her that one day she will be sexually mature.

That is supposed to be an Asian girl looking questioningly at a Barbie.

Heavy on Images

Sketchbook stuff from summer to present. Current tiny sketchbook is for class, supposed to be a drawing a day... there's a good mix of terrible and okay, mostly lazy bad.

A sort of self-portrait, I suppose.

"What are you looking at?"
"I don't know... something, I think."

References used. Two kings of different eras and proportions.

I could say I was going for shock factor.

I like these dollar tree pens because they bleed, not blob. The only downside is that the ink runs out super fast.

Ho ho ho May my lack of wit convince you that I am a pervert, but only because my mum told me I was one.

This may just be an inner excuse for not being a great artist, but I am strangely drawn to shitty drawings. Maybe it's a hipster thing.

Quick in class still life. Whatevs.

Actually it's getting better, hooray for life non-sucking!

Ugh

I really like this white gel pen, but I'm not entirely sure how to fully utilize it without using a shitload of ink or without dying from sharpie fumes... because I hate sharpie smell.

Some poet said something like, "dark in the dark," and I thought it was cool.

Probably the day I forgot to put myself on the keylist and had to do a shit ton of shitty self-portraits.

I got that in a kinderegg. Their surPrizes suck now. So sad.

Ugh I saw a kid with a wolf tail at school the other week. Shortly after reading an Internet meme about hot topic ruining Internet memes ahahahahaha they are already ruins from birth

Note to everyone in the universe: Make spares of your keys. Especially your car keys in case you happen to lock your keys in the trunk of your car that doesn't have back seats that fold down and doesn't have automatic trunk opener by the gas tank release. FFFFFFFFFFFFFF

I haven't touched that comic like I said I would. I am a bad boyfriend.

Another in class still. Ever since watercolor however many semesters ago, I loathe paper bags. And yet one of the watercolors I did of paper bags is one of my favorites of my own pieces.

Da Vinci master copy. I have no idea how he makes these figures so natural and organic. I can copy fine, but how do I do it from the mindddd????

F UUUUUUUUU da vinci

I did it for the lulz. Messed up the faces.

My new muse is personified marshmallows. Seriously, not kidding. They bring me such inexplicable joy amidst their lonely groupings.

Eventually, this is how our band is going to be. Again, seriously, not kidding.

Concept sketches for a comic that will prolly look just about the same. I did a slightly larger version on newsprint, and the original original is in a notebook. I figure that if I draw it enough, something will happen.

haha jk NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.

Yeah.

I was waiting for everyone to finish the English test today and I just can't not write on something that's white and blank. That's like dangling a fresh vagina in front of a serial rapist (too graphic? my only excuse is that I am an artist.). So I drew a marshmallow man falling to his knees [repetitious image] near a ledge and I just... don't know. I was slightly [under-exaggerated] overcome by gassy laughter that I had to suppress due to the test not being done yet. Yet at the same time, while I couldn't help but smirk, I felt a tearful sadness about my eyes. It was weird. I came to the conclusion, as I constantly do [self-fulfilling prophecy?], that I am literally going crazy. But I guess that's okay if I'm therefore happy most of the time.

Late Nights Seem Most Productive

Planning on painting something like this on the front of a friend's shoes. She wants them more... chibi-style.

... AHHHNEEEMAYYYYYYYY

I think I may also use this as my final ahahahahahahahahadjsafoewifj

Oh, and bonus. Here's a song that Charles and Adrianne found lyrics to a long while ago and I put it to music and then we found out that it's actually a song that Lindsay Lohan sings. WAH WAH WAHHHHH mine is better.

Lots of good stuff upcoming...

Beginning concept sketches for a comic about my college experience.

The introduction.

An idea that has been in my head for a while.

Also an idea that has been in my head for a while.

A more recent idea that has probably been done... this one is just a concept sketch.

Ugh need internet.

The Light Shape Project

It all started when I was waiting in my car for a friend who was running late. Twas in the evening and I was listening to music in my car. Got bored, started taking photos with my camera phone of the glowing light emanating from my car radio.

HENCE 31 images [I will refer to them as Light Shape images] similar to the one below [I just moved the camera around whilst taking the photo] that I will use to inspire new drawings/paintings.

This is #1. I rotated it [although this time I forgot to flip it as well] in order to see it from different viewpoints. Got about 33 small thumbnails of different ways to see this image. The main reason for this project is that I'm bossy and I always want people to see the world like I do. lol But really, I see images, characters, faces, all sorts of things in... everything. Carpets, shadows, textures, food, abstractions, etc. Shit, and I don't even do drugs.

Thumbnails

More thumbnails, plus some larger versions of some concepts I got from the Light Shape image.

Ultimately, I decided to do an ambiguous painting of some adorable excited beavers with one left out. I was thinking of putting him on the other side so that you could see his expression, but I want to leave his feelings up to the viewer. Maybe he's pretentious, maybe he's really sad that he's not part of that crowd, maybe he's plotting murder. I don't know. Do you?

At any rate, this painting will be one of many projects I have over the summer. BUT FIRST, I have to paint a friend's shoes with an Irish theme. Thinking it's gonna be a lot of shamrocks/clovers with harp coins on fallen tree trunks.

Robot Science Fanart

Starting to get productive here.

Most of my drawings are concepts more than anything finished... sigh. But I liked this idea. The turntables are the sun and the moon.

Fanart for my electronic musical friend, Charlie. Download his two albums for free here

Portrait of a Scientist

Iono, I was doing some conceptual sketches for that whole schizophrenia thing from last night, and then I figured I should draw something that is somewhat worth posting. After I drew it, it sort of reminded me of Jekyll and Hyde. Yup.

As for the concept sketches, I thought it would be neat to do a series of childhood imagination vs. adult hallucination/schizophrenia. I've got a whole file of these random ideas and have yet to do anything with them.

Scanner/Printer Set Up Hooray

I've always been afraid of color because I've never been very good with it. I'm still terrible with it. I wanted to intermix colors in this, but I didn't. They're all separate except in the sky, where the only differences are orange, red orange, and red.  Boo. I did, however, enjoy the minor experimentation with line texture.

Wellp.

Same as the above, but I accidentally moved it while scanning and I thought it had an interesting effect. Keep this in mind if you ever want to do scanner art.

Iono. I was trying to figure out how to mix colors within skin tones and what sort of depth each color gives... but I didn't find out very much. Red brings forward, blue pushes back... what does green do?

Poorly Drawn Eyebrows. Iono.

UGH I hate how cmdA and cmdQ are right next to each other. Another inconvenient Mac point. Thank goodness for autosave.

Concept Ideas

At home, we have bathroom mirror cabinet things that split into three mirrors to form one, right? Well, ever since watching The Ring and Ringu in middle school [I watched Ringu by myself wtffffff is wrong with me?], I've been super afraid of anything that gives off a reflection. Especially mirrors. And so every time I look into the bathroom mirrors, I have to check each one of them to make sure that it's me in the mirror, but it's always really scary because what if it ISN'T me [It's weird that I haven't done drugs, specifically hallucinogenic drugs.].

Thus spurred the idea of an installation [I have noooo idea how I would do it.] involving a three piece mirror in which the viewer's reflection would be slightly different and distorted in each of the three mirrors. I suppose I would want to evoke a sense of fear and uncertainty. However, I think this would be a selfish and mean endeavor because I would just want other people to sort of feel paranoid like I do. D8 D8 D8

Anyway, sketched some stuff today, will get those scanned once I get back up to Church, aka the Newly Established Church of Friendship, aka the Church of lulz, aka my apartment. lol. I figure that if I go on a rampage to be as offensive as I can, then I will figure something out in the end. Wherever that is.

Why not?

Also, here is what I am currently listening to. Old, but good.

Advice

1. Do not go crazy drawing eyes.
2. Do not try to draw faces as if both sides are exactly the same because that is not how human faces typically are.
3. Do not draw anime style until you can draw everything else. It is very difficult to escape simplifying everything.
4. Human bodies are not perfect.
5. Human bodies have flesh.

Concept sketches from tonight. One more day and this is all over.
